Cloud9 Mid Laner Perkz Experiences Light Sensitivity Issues After LASIK Surgery
Cloud9’s mid laner, Perkz, was seen wearing a hat during their recent win, which left fans puzzled. However, Perkz clarified that he had been experiencing sensitivity to light due to his recent LASIK surgery, which is why he opted to wear the hat (Perkz’s tweet).
Struggles Adjusting to Stage Play
Perkz further explained that his sensitivity to the bright lights in the studio has made it difficult for him to adapt to stage play this season. Despite requesting Riot to lower the brightness over the past three weeks, they did not accommodate his needs. Perkz even had to obtain a doctor’s note to be allowed to wear the hat during competitive games.
Perkz expressed his frustration in a now-deleted tweet, mentioning that he never faced such issues while playing in the European LEC or international events. It remains to be seen how Perkz’s performance will be affected now that he no longer has to deal with ongoing eye problems.
LCS Commissioner Apologizes
LCS commissioner, Chris Greeley, apologized to Perkz for the discomfort he experienced while playing in the studio. Greeley acknowledged that the lighting levels and designs at the LCS are similar to those in other leagues and international events, and they have remained consistent since 2012. He admitted that the delay in addressing the issue created a false sense of security that impacted their reaction times.
Efforts to Find a Solution
It took a few weeks for the LCS to receive information about the nature of Perkz’s discomfort. The team is now collaborating with Cloud9 to find a temporary fix while exploring long-term solutions to ensure that Perkz can play on stage without any discomfort.
First, I want to apologize to @C9Perkz for the discomfort he’s felt while playing in our studio. We always want to provide the best possible experience for our pros. 1/3

Perkz may have to continue playing with a cap for now. Fortunately, the hat adds a stylish touch, and we all know that when you look great, you might just play great in League of Legends. Catch Cloud9 in action as they go up against Team Liquid today at 6pm CT.
