KT Rolster triumphs over Afreeca Freecs to commence the latter half of the LCK Summer Split

KT Rolster Defeats Afreeca Freecs in Intense Reverse Sweep

Last week, there was speculation about which team Korea would send to face Chinese representative Royal Never Give Up in the final match of the Eastern Rift Rivals tournament. Despite expectations of KT being chosen due to their undefeated record, Afreeca played in the deciding match instead.

However, with Afreeca’s loss to RNG, fans began to question the decision to choose them over KT. This led to speculation about which team was truly better, and that speculation was put to rest with the match between Afreeca and KT.

An Even Start

In the beginning, both teams were cautious in their play. While KT and Afreeca attempted to find kills and engage in fights, neither team wanted to fully commit. This resulted in many fights ending without any kills, and players from both teams walking away with low health.

KT’s Missed Opportunity

KT tried to take advantage of Afreeca’s low health and went for Baron. Unfortunately, Afreeca was able to return to their base quickly enough to prevent KT from securing Baron and ended up taking the buff for themselves. With Baron, Afreeca had the advantage in teamfights without having to use all of their abilities and summoner spells.

KT’s Lead Grows Through Macro Play

In games two and three, KT and Afreeca abandoned their reserved playstyle and engaged in constant fights until they found kills. Despite the similar kill count, KT gained the advantage through efficient macro play. They secured more towers and all of the Elemental Drakes.

KT’s Creative Engages Secure Victory

In games two and three, KT extended their lead through vision control in Afreeca’s jungle. This allowed them to surprise Afreeca players with engagements using abilities like Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong’s Abyssal Voyage as Tahm Kench. KT found picks with these engages, which enabled them to secure Baron and ultimately win the game.

With their week completed, KT is now focused on their upcoming telecom war against SK Telecom T1, where they will seek revenge for their defeat in week three.
