Krepo announces retirement from professional League of Legends career

Mitch “Krepo” Voorspoels Retires from Professional League of Legends

One of the most popular players and personalities in League of Legends, Mitch “Krepo” Voorspoels, has announced his retirement from professional play. Voorspoels, who recently played as a support for the European team Elements, made the announcement in a Facebook post, where he reflected on his career.

Voorspoels expressed his gratitude for the game, saying “League of Legends is the best thing that ever happened to me. I’ve had a pretty awesome career looking back.” However, he admitted that he has been having less fun playing the game lately. “I’ve always said that the moment playing this game stops being fun and feels like a grind, I’ll retire,” he explained. “And I think that moment has finally come.”

Voorspoels joined Elements mid-season, hoping to turn around the struggling team’s performance. However, they were unable to improve their standings, finishing in seventh place once again. According to Elements, they wanted Voorspoels to stay for another season, but he decided it was time to quit.

Voorspoels has a long history in League of Legends. He was a core member of the Counter Logic Gaming Europe lineup, which achieved great success in 2012. They won Dreamhack Summer and finished in second place in Korea’s Champions League. The team also performed well in the Season 2 World Championship. Voorspoels later moved to America to compete in the American version of the league.

In 2014, Voorspoels left Evil Geniuses after the team’s lack of success and an unhealthy team environment. It seemed like he would transition to an analyst role, but he answered the call to join Elements when they were in trouble. However, the team’s performance did not improve significantly, leading to another seventh place finish for Voorspoels.

Despite retiring from professional play, Voorspoels plans to continue his involvement in the League of Legends community, particularly as a analyst on Riot Games’ broadcasts. He is optimistic about this new chapter in his life, saying, “It’s pretty daunting to realize that I’ll never play a competitive League of Legends match ever again, but I just have to look at it positively, starting another chapter in the story that’s my life.”
