Korea President Vows to Support Video Game Industry Following T1’s Worlds 2023 Victory

T1 Makes History with Fourth League of Legends World Championship Win

T1 created history on November 19th by winning the Worlds 2023 trophy. After their victory against Weibo Gaming, the President of South Korea congratulated the team and expressed unwavering support for the country’s video game industry.

President Yoon Suk Yeol commended T1 for their fourth League of Legends World Championship win, stating that it brought great joy and touched the hearts of South Korean citizens, as translated by Ashley Kang.

In a statement, President Yoon Suk Yeol wrote, “The South Korean government will provide adamant support to ensure that the South Korean video game industry can compete globally and become a leading force in the international gaming industry.”

T1 lift the Summoner's Cup after winning the LoL World Championship in 2023

This victory adds to the ongoing success of South Korean esports. On September 29th, the country won gold at the Asian Games 2023 by defeating Taiwan in the League finals.

The hosting of Worlds 2023 in South Korea after five years was a monumental success for T1. In the previous event held in the country in 2018, China’s Invictus Gaming claimed the Summoner’s Cup by defeating Fnatic.
