Journey to Worlds: Albus Nox Luna

Today, we take a look at Albus NoX Luna, the team that has qualified for Worlds from the LoL Continental League (LCL).

The Masters of the LCL

When in Russia…

For those who are not aware, the LCL is a tournament for the Russian/CIS region, which follows the same format as the EU/NA LCS. Albus NoX Luna, formerly known as ‘Hard Random,’ played in the Spring Split 2016 and became favorites due to their dominance of the StarLadder series. They qualified for the Mid-Season Invitational by winning the Spring Playoffs and became the first ever representative of the LCL.

At the time of writing, the Albus NoX Luna roster for Worlds consists of Dmitry “Smurf” Ivanov, Alexander “PvPstejos” Glaskov, Michael “Kira” Garmash, Vladislav “aMiracle” Scherbyna, and Krill “Likkrit” Malofeev.

The Hard Random Legacy

During the Spring Split, Hard Random dominated the league with a record of 12-2 and became the first ever split champions of the LCL. They entered the Spring Playoffs as the No. 1 seed and defeated Vega Squadron in the finals to secure their spot in the International Wild Card Invitations.

The International Wild Card Invitational

Going out on a whimper

The International Wildcard Invitational for MSI brought together the top teams from different regions to compete for a spot in the main event. Hard Random had a chance to attend MSI but fell short after losing to Supermassive eSports in the tie-breaker. Despite their defeat, Hard Random’s performance was not forgotten.

Summer Split 2016 and Summer Playoffs

Birth of the Tiger

In the Summer Split, Albus NoX Luna continued their dominance and finished with an impressive record. They defeated Tornado Rox in the playoffs to reach the finals, where they faced Vega Squadron. After a shaky start, Albus NoX Luna managed to win the series and qualify for the International Wildcard qualifiers.
