Jatt’s Insight on the Scuttle Crab Adjustments in League’s PBE

Scuttle Crab Spawn Timer Change in League of Legends

In a recent update to the League of Legends Public Beta Environment, our beloved crab on Summoner’s Rift is undergoing a significant change. Although not mentioned in the PBE patch notes, the Scuttle Crab’s spawn timer has been extended from two minutes into the game to three minutes and 15 seconds.

Reducing Frustration for Junglers

Jungle expert and former LCS caster, Joshua “Jatt” Leesman, took to Reddit to shed light on the changes to the crab. Jatt explained that the goal of this alteration is to diminish the frustration caused by the early reliance of junglers on laners for Scuttle Crab assistance. This dependency often leads to forced conflicts when most players are only at level two or even level one.

Implications for Junglers and Laners

Currently, early jungle clears are heavily influenced by the presence of the Scuttle Crab, as many players opt to secure it early on for vision and map control. However, junglers with weaker early game kits struggle to secure the crab on their own, necessitating assistance from their laners. This not only disrupts the laners’ own experience in their lanes, but it may also force them into unwanted engagements at level one or two.

More Flexibility for Junglers

With the new spawn time of the Rift Scuttler, Jatt explains that junglers now have more flexibility in their pre-three-minute strategies. By the three-minute mark, both junglers and laners will have reached around level three or four. This means they will need to decide between completing a full clear and returning to base, or attempting to secure the Scuttle Crab before backing.

Jatt is actively working to find a balance that avoids early fights while still promoting the strategic gameplay that arises from an important camp like the Rift Scuttler.
