Jatt: “Worlds 2019 shifts focus from the best region to the best team”

Shift from Best Region to Best Team: Insights from Jatt on League of Legends World Championship

North American League of Legends caster and analyst Joshua “Jatt” Leesman has shared his perspective on how the World Championship has transitioned from being a battle between regions to a competition to determine the best team.

For years, South Korea dominated the competitive League scene, always being one step ahead of other regions. Teams from South Korea were the frontrunners in international tournaments due to their innovative playstyles. As a result, other regions attempted to emulate their strategies in the hopes of achieving similar success. However, the LCK consistently maintained their superiority.

In 2018, this dynamic changed as regions such as Europe and China realized that they couldn’t defeat Korea by simply copying their approach. These regions started developing their own unique playstyles and found success. Consequently, for the first time since season one, Korea failed to reach the Worlds finals.

The 2019 World Championship has been fiercely competitive, with no single region dominating over the others. The top teams from major regions have proven their mettle, and there isn’t a clear frontrunner for this year’s competition.

Jatt expresses his enthusiasm for the current state of League of Legends esports, stating, “This is the League of Legends ecosystem that we’ve all always hoped for.” He emphasizes that exceptional teams from various regions can now compete and strive to be the best. The upcoming semifinals are sure to provide incredible matchups.

Jatt acknowledges that the semifinals feature the top representatives from Korea, China, and Europe, with the exception being the defending world champions, Invictus Gaming. This diverse representation showcases the true essence of competitive esports, where no single region dominates.

Fans of League of Legends can anticipate the upcoming Worlds semifinal matches, which promise to be the most thrilling yet. The tournament resumes on Saturday, Nov. 2, with the clash between Invictus Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix at 6am CT.
