Janna’s Win Rate Declines Among LoL Players’ Attempts to Adapt Reverted Changes in Patch 13.22

Janna Suffers Decline in Win Rate After Patch 13.22

The recent Patch 13.22 for League of Legends introduced major changes to the champion Janna, but unfortunately, her win rate has taken a hit as a result.

In the past few patches leading up to the end of the 2023 season, Riot Games has been focusing on champions that may be performing well in certain areas but poorly in others. They have made significant adjustments and overhauls to address these issues. While some champions have seen success with these changes, Janna has yet to benefit.

As part of Patch 13.22, Riot aimed to address the concerns of Janna players by revisiting her place in the ever-evolving meta. They shifted her from a “low-interaction” disengage playstyle to a more active enchanter role by reverting some changes made to her last year. However, this change back to a playstyle that hasn’t been popular for over a year has made it challenging for Janna. According to data from OP.GG, U.GG, and champion.gg, her win rate has dropped by four percent and currently sits at around 50 percent.

In Patch 12.2, Janna underwent a complete overhaul that transformed her from an aggressive enchanter who excelled at poking enemies while providing support into a champion focused solely on disengaging and countering enemy advantages. Riot felt that her supportive abilities were too strong at the time and made adjustments to her E and ultimate, impacting her overall power and itemization.

Since then, Riot has reevaluated Janna’s playstyle and realized that her previous identity could be reintroduced into the game without overshadowing her new role as a counterpick against dive and frontline-heavy compositions. Unfortunately, players have become accustomed to Janna’s new support identity, making it difficult to determine the best way to play her now.

Reverted Changes Bring Power Back to Janna’s Kit

One of the reverted changes brought power back to Janna’s W, Zephyr, which serves as her primary poking tool. Her passive was also updated to allow her to deal bonus magic damage with both her W and auto attacks, scaling with her movement speed. This synergizes well with her speedy playstyle and opens up new build paths for Janna. Players are currently experimenting with whether a traditional W-max build or a more supportive E-max build, which has been standard for over a year, is superior.

These changes have sparked the interest of many League of Legends players, not just those who had been waiting for updates to Janna. Her pick rate has increased to seven percent from three percent in Patch 13.22. With more time, players will determine where she stands in the current state of the game and whether these reverts to her abilities are what she needed to shine.
