Jankos discusses the expectations of excelling as a carry at Worlds 2020

No European Team in League of Legends World Championship Finals for the First Time Since 2017

G2 Esports, the representative of Europe in the League of Legends World Championship, have been eliminated from the tournament after their loss to DAMWON Gaming. This is the first time since 2017 that Europe will not have a team in the finals. G2 Esports will now return to Berlin to regroup for the 2021 LEC Spring Split.

DAMWON Gaming Dominates in Worlds

In the series against DAMWON Gaming, G2 Esports had a disappointing performance. DAMWON Gaming secured the fastest victory in Worlds history in game four, showcasing their strength and making them a formidable opponent in the upcoming finals match.

G2’s Struggle with Carry Jungle Style

G2 faced a challenge in adapting to the carry jungle style that has gained popularity worldwide. This style relies on champions like Graves, Nidalee, and Kindred. While G2’s jungler Jankos demonstrated his mechanical skills on these champions, there were other aspects that needed to be taken into account for success.

G2 is a team known for their solo laners, and Jankos usually focuses on providing utility for them to deal massive damage. This involves early game ganking and sacrificing jungle camps, which goes against the current World Championship jungle playstyle. G2 struggled to find their footing in a meta where Jankos couldn’t provide constant support to his laners. While Jankos performed well individually, the team’s overall understanding of their role was lacking.

Pressure on Carry Junglers

Being a carry jungler comes with its own set of pressures. Jankos acknowledged that it was a new experience for G2 to play with a jungle-focused strategy. He had to put in extra effort in scrims and review games more thoroughly to make the right decisions and provide consistent damage for his team.

Jankos emphasized that the jungle role always carries importance in the meta, whether it’s focused on ganking or farming. Junglers have the unique ability to move around the map and provide support where needed, creating a significant amount of pressure on them to perform.

G2’s Determination for the Future

Despite the disappointment of their World Championship run ending, Jankos believes that as professionals, they always have to perform at Worlds. He feels that his responsibilities this year were not significantly different from last year. G2 will now focus on coming back stronger in 2021, regardless of the jungle meta.
