Is Hylissang from Fnatic the best player at Worlds 2019?

The Best Player at Worlds – Could it be Hylissang?

This year at Worlds, there is much debate over who the best player is. Many consider Korean superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who won the Riot Games vote, to be the top contender. However, there are other strong players to consider, such as LEC MVP Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and Griffin’s Lee “Tarzan” Seungyong.

Interestingly, one group of players that often gets overlooked in these discussions are the supports. Only a few made it onto the lists submitted by Joshua “Jatt” Leesman and Andy “Vedius” Day. Fnatic support Zdravets “Hylissang” Galabov is mentioned only once, at the very end of Vedius’ list.

Despite flying under the radar, Hylissang is a force to be reckoned with. While he may not be the biggest name on Fnatic or in his lane, he excels in mechanics, teamfight ability, and leadership, making him one of the top players in the game.

Not Your Grandma’s Support

In the early days of League of Legends, supports had a simple role – buy Sightstone and stay out of the way. However, the support role has undergone significant changes in recent years, with more skill expression becoming integral to the position.

Champions like Pyke, Rakan, and Yuumi have pushed supports to new heights. Hylissang, once criticized for his limited champion pool, has expanded his repertoire. While he still favors engage champions like Thresh and Alistar, he has also become proficient with Rakan, Pyke, and even Yuumi.

Fnatic shocked the world this summer by picking and winning with a Garen-Yuumi bot lane. This nontraditional strategy showcases Hylissang’s ability to create opportunities for his team.

Fnatic’s Carry

At the beginning of the year, making it to Worlds seemed uncertain for Fnatic. The team had its flaws, with inconsistent performances from top laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau and rookie mid laner Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek.

To address these weaknesses, Fnatic relied heavily on Hylissang. He ensured Rekkles could dominate the bot lane and roamed to assist other lanes with jungler Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen. When all else failed, Fnatic looked to Hylissang for game-changing plays.

Although ranking players is challenging, Hylissang’s growth throughout the year has been instrumental in Fnatic’s success. His impact on the team has led many to consider him the best support in the world and a strong contender for the title of the best player at Worlds.
