Is Group D the most uncompetitive group at Worlds 2022?

Preview of Group D in League of Legends Worlds 2022

The group stage of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship will begin on Oct. 7, following the conclusion of the play-in stage. This stage will feature four groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout bracket.

Gen.G: The Dominant LCK Team

The first seed from Korea, Gen.G, is the favorite to advance from Group D. With an impressive performance in the LCK Summer Split, going 17-1 and losing only one game in the playoffs, Gen.G has established themselves as a strong contender.

Led by carries Ruler and Chovy, Gen.G boasts a formidable roster. Players like Peanut, Doran, and Lehends have also been performing exceptionally well. The team’s success will depend on the synergy between Peanut and Chovy, as the meta has shifted away from bot lane dominance.

RNG: Overcoming Play-in Challenges

Royal Never Give Up, the fourth seed from the LPL, had a tougher time than expected in the play-ins. After losing their opening game, they had to fight their way into the group stage. Despite the challenges, RNG showed promise with top laner Breathe and carries GALA and Xiaohu.

RNG will need to address their drafting issues and secure power picks to succeed in the group stage. Although they are expected to advance, their performances in play-ins raise questions about their consistency and adaptation to the meta.

CFO: The Underdogs of Group D

CTBC Flying Oyster, the first seed from the Pacific Championship Series, surprised everyone by winning the 2022 Summer Split Playoffs. Despite being a new organization, the team consists of experienced players, including mid laner Mission and top laner Rest.

CFO’s conservative playstyle focuses on capitalizing on enemy mistakes and building leads for the late game. With mid laner Mission consistently dealing significant damage, CFO has the potential to upset the higher-seeded teams in Group D.

100T: NA’s Hopes in Group D

As one of the top teams in the LCS, 100 Thieves will be the center of attention in Group D. With a strong macro play and effective objective control, 100T relies on their cohesive team strategy. The team’s lineup, including ADC FBI and mid laner Abbedagge, offers versatility and depth.

While Gen.G is expected to dominate the group, 100T has a chance to secure the second spot. RNG’s inconsistent performances in play-ins open up opportunities for both 100T and CFO to make an impact. It will be crucial for 100T to seize these opportunities and prove themselves on the international stage.
