Invictus Gaming dominates JDG with a sweeping victory in the LPL final

JD Gaming Swept by Invictus Gaming in LPL Final

JD Gaming, a standout team in League of Legends esports, faced a formidable opponent in the LPL final – defending world champions Invictus Gaming (IG). Unfortunately, JDG was unable to overcome IG’s dominance, as they lost in three straight games. This victory secures the LPL crown for IG, a title they missed out on last year. Despite the absence of Royal Never Give Up, who had previously challenged IG, the world champions showcased their trademark style and crushed JDG.

TheShy and Rookie Propel IG to Victory

In the first two games, IG strategically drafted strong champions for their top laner, Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok. TheShy, who had previously showcased his dominance at Worlds, seemed to unnerve JDG. While JDG’s top laner, Zhang “Zoom” Xing-Ran, had been performing exceptionally throughout the year, IG intentionally picked losing matchups for him, relying on their mid game to make up for it. However, IG’s pressure, along with the superior lane presence of mid laner Song “Rookie” Eui-jin, granted them control of the map and restricted JDG’s comeback potential.

JDG’s Brief Moment of Hope Crushed by IG

In the third game, JDG had the advantage of being on the blue side and drafted winning solo lanes, including a Jayce for Zoom. Mid laner Zeng “YaGao” Qi finally exerted pressure on Rookie’s Ryze with Syndra, giving JDG a lead in the mid game for the first time in the series. The game turned into a bloody affair, with 26 kills in the first 16 minutes. JDG secured Baron 23 minutes into the game after winning a skirmish in the top lane. However, when they attempted to push for the bot lane inhibitor turret, IG won a massive teamfight, resulting in the elimination of four JDG players.

IG’s Aggression and Late Objectives Secure the Sweep

From that moment on, IG maintained an aggressive playstyle and secured late objectives. They obtained the second Baron around the 30-minute mark and subsequently marched through the bot lane, dismantling JDG and destroying their Nexus, completing the series sweep.

With this victory, IG earns a spot in the upcoming 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, where they will compete against the best teams from around the world. MSI 2019 is set to begin on May 1.
