Playoffs around the world began with a relatively calm week and a half of playoffs, where the favorites emerged victorious and closely matched teams had intense series. However, this weekend brought a significant change. CLG’s victory over Impulse (finally reaching an LCS final) and TSM’s win over Liquid were both unexpected results, although they can be explained. Impulse went through an unfortunate roster change but still put up a close fight despite the 3-0 scoreline, and Liquid had shown vulnerabilities in the mid/late game for some time.
However, these surprises were overshadowed by EDG’s consecutive losses. After a 14-game winning streak, EDG lost 0-3 to LDG and 1-3 to IG. It’s worth noting that during the last two weeks of the regular season, EDG faced relatively weak opponents, which might have contributed to this sudden slump. Nevertheless, it is one of the most dramatic loss-of-forms in League history.
