Illaoi’s Battlecast Skin in Progress: The Mechanical Head Recall Doubles as a Jetpack

Riot Provides Updates on Illaoi Skin Development

Riot Games is currently working on Illaoi’s first post-release skin, and the design team is keeping the community informed about the progress of the skin’s development.

In their recent update, Riot shared insights into the process of animating a champion’s abilities and how it differs for each skin. It was revealed that Illaoi’s animations are particularly complex compared to other champions, with three times the number of animation files required compared to Nasus.

One possible reason for the delay in releasing Illaoi’s skin could be its intricate animation requirements, but regardless, it’s fascinating to see how it all comes together.

An Inside Look at the Skin’s Animation Development

In a series of clips provided by Riot, we can see the progression of the recall animation’s development. The design team added a playful touch to the otherwise serious skin by depicting Illaoi starting her head jet-pack like a lawnmower. This part of the design process took approximately four to five days to complete.

Additionally, other aspects of the skin’s design, such as idle particles like flames and smoke emitted from the head, as well as alterations to her voiceover, are also progressing well.

This intricate design work involves multiple teams working simultaneously on different animation elements, and it can be quite complex.

Release Date and Launch Expectations

The Battlecast Illaoi skin is scheduled to launch sometime in the middle of the season.
