IgNar reflects on departure from EU LCS: “Misfits showed no interest… I assumed they didn’t want me”

Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun Leaving Misfits Gaming

Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun, Misfits Gaming’s support player, has announced his departure from the team and his return to Korea’s LCK. In an interview with Blitz Esports, IgNar revealed that he had originally planned to stay with Misfits in the EU LCS.

While this news may sadden European fans, it is also disappointing for fans worldwide. IgNar and his team defied the odds by qualifying for Worlds this year, and they performed exceptionally well, using unique tactics that no other western team employed.

IgNar played a crucial role in Misfits’ success at Worlds, impressing everyone with his exceptional gameplay. This earned him and the team a significant increase in popularity.

He is well-known for his performances on both Blitzcrank and Leona, champions that were considered off-meta at the time. His strategic picks helped Misfits defeat SK Telecom T1, the former world champions, in the quarterfinals. His outstanding gameplay greatly contributed to his team’s victory.

Contrary to what many believed, IgNar had no plans to take his exceptional skills elsewhere. He engaged in discussions with other teams only to gauge his value and explore opportunities. However, his intention was to return to Misfits. Unfortunately, the organization never approached him for contract renewal or negotiations, leading him to believe that they were not interested in keeping him.

“I thought because Misfits never talked about renewing the contract and never attempted to start the negotiation—I thought that they didn’t want me,” IgNar told Blitz. “That’s why I started looking for opportunities elsewhere.”

Joining IgNar in leaving Misfits this year is star mid laner Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, who joined OpTic Gaming in the NA LCS. Misfits fans may feel disappointed that the organization allegedly did not make an effort to retain IgNar, one of their best players. On the other hand, IgNar’s fans are likely excited about his return to the highly competitive Korean region for the 2018 season.
