IEM Katowice to Begin with Classic Gambit vs. CJ Entus Match

Exciting Matchups Revealed for Intel Extreme Masters Katowice

The Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland is all set to host some of the biggest names in the esports world. The upcoming Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Katowice League event will feature eight of the best League of Legends teams from around the globe competing against each other. Today, the opening round matchups were announced.

Format and Structure of the Event

The IEM Katowice League event will consist of two double-elimination group stages. Each group will have four teams from different regions. To advance to the semifinals, a team must win two matches before losing two. The semifinals will be a best-of-three series between the winners from each group. The tournament will culminate with a best-of-five final, determining the IEM World Champion.

Noteworthy Battles in Group Stages

In Group A, fans can expect an intense showdown between American powerhouse Cloud9 and the top Korean team, GE Tigers. The winner of this match will then face either SK Gaming, the current top team in Europe, or the yoe Flash Wolves.

Group B will witness a clash between Team SoloMid, often called the “New York Yankees of America,” and China’s World Elite. However, the more intriguing matchup will be between Gambit Gaming and CJ Entus.

A Nostalgic Throwback

Gambit Gaming and CJ Entus have faced each other before in the IEM Season VII World Championship back in March 2013. Although the teams have evolved over the years, they both still have two players from that era. For Gambit, it’s Diamondprox and Edward, and for CJ Entus, it’s Shy and MadLife. This matchup is reminiscent of a different era in League, when tournaments were less structured compared to the League Championship Series.

Anticipation and Excitement

Fans are eagerly awaiting the IEM Katowice event, hoping to relive the excitement of past international competitions. This tournament will bring back the thrill of single series and matches determining a team’s fate. Can America and Europe challenge the dominance of Asian teams? Will SK Gaming or Team SoloMid shine on the international stage? Can Cloud9 work their magic against Korea once again? All these questions will be answered next week, and it’s guaranteed to be a thrilling event.
