I May’s Road Receives One-Game Ban for Offensive Language

Ahead of their last group games at the League of Legends World Championships, I May, the Chinese team, will have to play without one of their players.

I May’s support player, Yun “Road” Han-Gil, has received a one game ban in a competitive ruling that was announced early Saturday morning.

Road was punished for his use of offensive language, including racially insensitive remarks, in online games.

After verbally abusing a teammate on October 5, Riot investigated Road’s accounts on the North American and Korean servers. It was discovered that he had received 27 reports for toxicity since August.

As a result, Road will miss the team’s first game, which is against Taiwan’s Flash Wolves. Both teams currently have identical 1-2 records, so the loser will likely need to win all of their remaining games to have a chance of reaching the quarterfinals.

In addition to the ban, Road has also been fined $2000 for his violations.

This ban has drawn comparisons to the three-match ban given to Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen, who was playing for SK Gaming in 2014. Svenskeren was punished for racially insensitive behavior and missed the first three games of the Worlds group stage. SK Gaming lost all three of those games and were eliminated from the group stage.
