High-ranked LoL mid laners are dominating with one unconventional champ in Patch 14.10

From time to time, a few League of Legends champions rule supreme in unusual positions, usually following small modifications to them or their core items. Recently, one of these champions returned to the mid lane among high-ranked players.

That champion is none other than Tryndamere, who is no stranger to the mid lane, having been picked there on occasion in the past. Nonetheless, he has not been seen much in either the mid or top lane in recent months due to a lack of strength. In Patch 14.10, though, he’s truly been dominating at the higher ranks. At time of writing, Tryndamere boasts a 56.09 percent win rate in Diamond+ ranks, according to League stats site U.GG.

With such a high win percentage, Tryndamere has a huge advantage over Rumble, Akshan, and Cassiopeia, all of whom have reached 53 percent. However, with a win rate of more than 56%, Tryndamere appears to be in a league of his own, at least for the time being. His great results are also not coincidental, as Diamond+ players have chosen him in 2,446 games on Patch 14.10 at the time of writing.

Fortunately for them, mid laners should have some experience laning versus Tryndamere. This is not the Barbarian’s first appearance in the position; he has been a flex pick for years. Even professional players, such as Faker, have previously chosen Tryndamere mid to exploit their opponents early on.

Tryndamere’s reign in the top rankings could come to an end soon, as one of his primary items, Infinity Edge, is scheduled to be nerfed in Patch 14.11—though the specifics of the impending changes are unknown at this time. We will know more next week, when the update is released on May 30.
