Hanwha Life Esports causes upset by defeating T1 in their final match of the 2021 LCK Summer Split

Hanwha Life Esports Upsets T1 in 2-0 Victory

Hanwha Life Esports secured an unexpected 2-0 win against T1 in today’s match during week 10 of the 2021 LCK Summer Split. This victory marks the end of HLE’s journey in the competition, as they did not qualify for the playoffs.

This League of Legends match was expected to be an easy win for T1. However, their lackluster drafts and gameplay led to their downfall. It’s important to note that T1’s mistakes weren’t the sole reason for their loss, as HLE performed exceptionally well throughout the split.

Deft, the ADC for HLE, was awarded both MVP votes for his outstanding performance on Ashe and Varus, two of the top AD carry picks in the meta. His accurate arrows caught T1 off guard in the first match, resulting in easy kills. Additionally, his Varus ultimates during teamfights played a significant role in HLE’s victory. He finished with an impressive KDA of 7/0/23.

In the first match, HLE had a superior draft compared to T1. They strategically picked LeBlanc, Lee Sin, and Ashe, while T1 settled for Lissandra and Trundle. Although the early game seemed balanced, Chovy from HLE eliminated crucial targets before fights even started. This allowed HLE to build a significant lead and secure the win.

Similar to the first game, HLE had a better draft in the second match. They played safe in the early game and then dominated T1 once they reached their power spikes. Deft’s accurate Varus ultimates were instrumental in securing HLE’s victory. His crowd control abilities impacted multiple members of T1 during teamfights, leading to a clean upset in HLE’s last match of the split.

Implications for HLE and T1 in the LCK

Hanwha Life Esports concluded their regular season on a high note, despite not qualifying for the playoffs after finishing eighth in the regular split. They experienced a significant drop in the standings compared to their third-place finish in the Spring Split. Their failure to adapt to the shifting meta played a crucial role.

On the other hand, T1 fans should be concerned about this disappointing performance. To have any chance of winning the LCK title or qualifying for Worlds, T1 will need to defeat stronger opponents in the playoffs.
