H2k-Gaming Dominates Fnatic; G2 Esports Qualifies for Worlds 2016

G2 Esports Secures Spot at League of Legends World Championships

G2 Esports has secured a spot at the League of Legends World Championships in North America after H2k-Gaming caused a major upset by defeating former European League Championship Series champions Fnatic. This victory has allowed H2k-Gaming to reach the semifinals of the EU LCS Summer Split, leaving the door wide open for G2 Esports.

With Origen dropping down to the promo tournament, they forfeited their 70 LCS points. This means that regardless of the results, G2 will be one of three teams competing in North America for the championship title in a few months.

Competition Heats Up for Automatic Qualifying Spot

H2k joins Unicorns of Love, G2 Esports, and Splyce in the semifinals to battle it out for the all-important automatic qualifying spot. All of these teams will be vying to become Europe’s top-seeded team for Worlds and enter into Pot Two.

H2k-Gaming’s stunning 3-0 victory over Fnatic has surprised many, as Fnatic was expected to easily advance to the next round. Fnatic’s decision to bring in a new top-laner and the departure of their former coach, Louis ‘Deilor’ Sevilla, seemed to have negative effects on the team. Fnatic now faces the challenge of keeping their jungler, Lee ‘Spirit’ Da-yoon, who displayed his unhappiness after the defeat.

EU Region’s Teams for the World Championships

With Fnatic’s chances of qualifying for Worlds looking increasingly unlikely, we must applaud H2k and G2 Esports for their impressive performances. We hope they won’t disappoint in the future.
