Guide: Mastering Yone, the Latest Champion in League of Legends

Yone, the Unforgotten, is the newest champion in League of Legends. Like his brother Yasuo, Yone aims to defeat frontline champions and punish squishy backline targets. If you’re looking for a new mobile duelist, consider adding Yone to your champion pool.

Here’s everything you need to know to play Yone effectively:

Runes and abilities

Conqueror is the best keystone rune for Yone. It provides extra damage and healing during prolonged skirmishes. Depending on the matchup, you can also consider Fleet Footwork for sustain against ranged champions or Grasp of the Undying against bulky opponents.

Yone’s abilities include:

Passive: Way of the Hunter

Similar to Yasuo, Yone gains extra critical strike chance. However, his damage from critical strikes is slightly reduced. Yone’s auto attacks alternate between his Steel Sword and Azakana Sword, dealing both magic and physical damage.

Q: Mortal Steel

Yone thrusts his sword forward, dealing physical damage. Every third Q hits everyone in the area and knocks them up. It’s best to prime the ability on minions or jungle monsters before a big fight to start with a knock up.

W: Spirit Cleave

Yone slashes in a cone shape, dealing both magic and physical damage. Spirit Cleave also scales off enemy maximum health and grants Yone a shield if it hits an enemy champion.

E: Soul Unbound

Yone leaves his body and dashes forward with his soul, storing damage. When he returns to his body, he detonates a portion of the stored damage as true damage. This ability also grants bonus movement speed over time.

R: Fate Sealed

Yone blinks in a targeted direction, dragging and stunning enemies. The damage from Fate Sealed is both physical and magical. This ability cannot be extended with flash.

Item path options

Yone benefits from critical strike and attack speed items. Berserker’s Greaves are valuable for movement speed and lower cooldowns. A core item is Infinity Edge, followed by a Zeal-based item like Phantom Dancer or Statikk Shiv. Adjust your build based on the game, considering Last Whisper for armor stackers, Wit’s End for magic damage, and Mercurial Scimitar for crowd control.

Optimizing early laning, mid-game skirmishes, and late-game teamfights

In lane, determine whether you or your opponent has tempo to make decisions. During mid-game skirmishes, focus on neutralizing the carries or the tanks depending on who is ahead. In late-game teamfights, dive past the frontline and eliminate the carries. Crowd control with third Q or R is crucial for success.
