Golden Guardians outplay CLG, surpassing last split’s win record

Golden Guardians secures second place with win over Counter Logic Gaming

In week five of the North American LCS, Golden Guardians made a strong push for second place by defeating Counter Logic Gaming.

The star mid laner for Golden Guardians, Son “Mickey” Young-min, once again showcased his skills with champion Talon. Early skirmishes gave Mickey a kill, allowing him to dominate the game. With his signature run-and-gun style, Mickey constantly pushed side lanes and looked for opportunities to make plays.

For the first 19 minutes, the game was evenly matched. However, during an attempted Rift Herald take by Guardians, Counter Logic Gaming engaged in a fight. Unfortunately for CLG, they couldn’t withstand the area of effect damage from Matthew “Deftly” Chen’s Heimerdinger and Matthew “Matt” Elento’s Fiddlesticks. Immediately after securing the Rift Herald buff, Guardians quickly took down the Baron buff, essentially sealing their victory.

CLG managed to prolong the game, but when Guardians caught jungler Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin out of position, it gave them the opportunity to secure the second Baron buff. With this advantage, they effortlessly dismantled CLG’s base and secured the win.

Despite CLG’s recent leaps in the standings, going from the bottom to first place, their bot lane duo of Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes and Vincent “Biofrost” Wang struggled to make an impact against Guardians. Additionally, jungler Reignover’s inconsistent play in the mid to late game often cost his team the match.

This victory marks Golden Guardians’ fifth win of the split, surpassing their total wins from the spring. They now find themselves tied for second place, a significant improvement from their last-place finish in the previous split.

On the upcoming schedule, Golden Guardians will face off against Echo Fox tomorrow at 6pm CT, while CLG will take on Team Liquid at 4pm CT.
