Golden Guardians dominate Team Liquid, securing second win of week six with Kalista-Diana synergy

Golden Guardians Upset Team Liquid in LCS

Golden Guardians pulled off another upset victory, this time against Team Liquid in the LCS. Despite being in last place in the 2021 Summer Split, the team can still make a surprising run to the playoffs.

Impressive Performance by Licorice

Golden Guardians now hold a 2-1 record through week six of the League of Legends Championship Series. This weekend, they faced tough opponents like 100 Thieves, TSM, and Liquid. With Licorice as their starting top laner, the team showcased a strong performance. Licorice collected eight kills, 12 assists, and only three deaths on Renekton.

Golden Guardians came into today’s game with a clear strategy. Their draft included Kalista in the mid lane, Diana in the jungle, and Ziggs in the bottom lane for early game pushing power. With this composition, they aimed to dominate the early game. In contrast, Liquid’s composition with Aphelios, Viego, and Dr. Mundo needed time to scale.

Using their superior early skirmishing composition, Golden Guardians aggressively pushed the tempo. They engaged with Nautilus and used Kalista to throw Diana into the backline, making it easy to execute the Moonfall ultimate ability. Golden Guardians didn’t give Liquid a chance to farm and scale into power spikes, quickly ending the game in just 30 minutes.

Liquid struggled to recover from the early game disadvantage and was unable to secure objectives. Golden Guardians dominated every dragon and neutral objective and only suffered four deaths as a team.

With three weeks left in the 2021 Summer Split, Golden Guardians have nine more games to try and secure a spot in the top eight for the playoffs. Currently, they are only one game behind FlyQuest, the eighth-best team in the league. If Golden Guardians can maintain their impressive form, they may secure a playoff spot next month.
