Gigabyte Marines emerge victorious in their revenge match against TSM at MSI

Gigabyte Marines Upset TSM at MSI

The Gigabyte Marines pulled off a surprising victory against TSM in a highly competitive game at MSI. Both teams made numerous mistakes throughout the match.

An Unexpected Turn of Events

TSM entered the match as the clear favorite, having previously defeated GAM in the play-in stage of the tournament. Despite having ample time to analyze and correct their mistakes, TSM faced even more setbacks in this game. GAM simply proved to be the superior team on this occasion.

Poor Choices in Draft

In champ select, TSM opted for a “protect the carry” composition with a Nautilus in the front line and a Lulu in the mid lane to keep ADC player Jason “WildTurtle” Tran alive. Despite WildTurtle’s reputation as the team’s weak link, they decided to put him on Twitch, a hyper-carry marksman, in hopes of securing victory. Surprisingly, WildTurtle played well and was not the reason for TSM’s loss. It was the team built around him that ultimately caused the North American champions to struggle.

Lack of Damage and Individual Mistakes

TSM lacked damage in other areas. With Bjergsen playing Lulu instead of his usual high-damage mages and Svenskeren performing poorly as Graves, WildTurtle was left as the team’s only hope against GAM. TSM’s numerous individual mistakes not only affected their laning phase performance but also prevented them from keeping WildTurtle alive in most team fights.

Costly Mistakes in the Top Lane

One of the significant mistakes in the game occurred in the top lane when Hauntzer and Svenskeren attempted a dive but failed, resulting in GAM taking the lead. Hauntzer missed his Dredge Line on Nautilus, and Svenskeren failed his Flash as Graves, leading to Hauntzer’s death. They were unable to secure a kill on GAM’s top laner, Stark, as compensation. Stark then teleported to the bottom lane, helping his team secure an easy kill and eventually the first tower of the game.

The game was filled with mistakes from both teams, but TSM’s shortcomings outweighed GAM’s errors. Despite GAM’s early advantage, they continued to make mistakes, giving TSM multiple opportunities to regain control. However, TSM’s overall performance was lacking.

After a grueling 36 minutes, GAM secured their first win of the group stage. Based on their performances in this stage of MSI, both GAM and TSM appear to be the weakest teams. TSM will have another chance to redeem themselves in their upcoming game against Team WE.
