Get ready for some buffing frenzy with Riot’s updates on 2 AP items in League of Legends

Riot Games Makes Preseason Tweaks and Revisions for League of Legends Season 12

The final days of League of Legends season 12 are approaching with less than 20 days left. Riot Games is making final tweaks and revisions for the preseason to ensure it’s ready when it goes live. The recent changes are focused on mage items, specifically Rod of Ages and Archangel’s Staff/Seraph’s Embrace.

Rod of Ages on the PBE has had its Genesis passive removed and now has the Eternity passive from Catalyst of Aeons. This means that for every 300 health or mana restored from Eternity, you will gain 10 percent movement speed for two seconds. When you reach max stacks, all Eternity effects are doubled according to Spideraxe, a game designer and Surrender@20 mod.

Archangel’s Staff, or Seraph’s Embrace, is undergoing substantial changes that will affect champions like Ryze and Anivia who frequently build this item. Fiendish Codex in the recipe is replaced with Kindlegem, granting the item 200 health. The cost of the item has also increased from 3000 to 3100. Flat ability power is reduced from 100 to 80, and Seraph’s ability power from bonus mana is reduced from 3 percent to 2 percent.

Although there are many nerfs, the item now has a new passive. Above 30 percent mana, it reduces damage taken by 5 percent and drains mana equal to the damage reduced. Getting a takedown restores 30 percent of max mana and grants 10 percent ability power for 10 seconds. The item will no longer provide 3 ability haste for 5 seconds upon damaging champions, stacking to 15.

These substantial balancing changes require time to fully understand and analyze their impact on champions like Cassiopeia and Annie who heavily rely on these items.

Patch 12.21 is expected to go live on Nov. 2.
