Gen.G remains in first place as they defeat Hanwha Life Esports in the 2021 LCK Summer Split

Gen.G Secures 2-1 Series Victory Over Hanwha Life Esports in 2021 LCK Summer Split

Gen.G emerged victorious in a thrilling 2-1 series against Hanwha Life Esports during the sixth week of the 2021 LCK Summer Split. Despite facing overwhelming odds, HLE put up a strong fight against the current standings leaders. Gen.G turned the tides of the series with impressive performances from Bdd on Azir, Ruler on Kalista, and Clid on Lee Sin, solidifying their dominance in the LCK.

Clid and Life Shine as MVPs in the Series

In today’s series, Clid and Life stood out with their exceptional performances, earning them the MVP votes. Clid showcased his mastery of Diana in the first game, applying relentless pressure across the map and securing vital objectives such as Rift Heralds and dragons. HLE felt the impact of his aggression and was forced to play defensively. In the last game, Life’s selection of Taric countered the dive-heavy composition of the opponents. His effective roaming, vision control, and well-timed teamfight ultimates led his team to a 2-1 victory.

The first match showcased Gen.G’s dominance as they left no room for error and closed it out after controlling the game for 30 minutes. HLE responded strongly in the second match by banning key picks that had contributed to Gen.G’s victory in the first game. Despite Gen.G’s adjustments in the draft, they were unable to match HLE’s determination to equalize the series. Gen.G managed to secure a Baron after winning a crucial teamfight, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory, as HLE won the next teamfight and leveled the series.

In the decisive final game, HLE opted for an aggressive composition centered around dive-heavy champions like Gwen, Xin Zhao, and Leona. However, Gen.G’s Taric pick effectively denied their opponents’ kill attempts in the midgame. Gen.G seized control of the neutral objectives, steadily dismantled towers, and ultimately emerged as the winners of the series.

Looking ahead, Gen.G (9-2) will face Liiv SANDBOX and Afreeca Freecs in the upcoming week. Both teams have shown improvements during the offseason and are expected to be strong contenders for the playoffs. While Gen.G demonstrated some vulnerabilities in today’s series, it remains to be seen if these weaknesses can be exploited by the more competitive teams.
