G2 vs. Origen achieves record viewership during 2020 LEC Spring Split

G2 Esports vs Origen: LEC Spring Split Reaches New Peak Viewership

This past LEC weekend delivered some of the most thrilling action this season, just two weeks into the 2020 Spring Split. The highly-anticipated match between G2 Esports and Origen proved to be a standout, garnering the highest peak viewership of the split so far, with over 409,000 peak viewers based on data from Esports Charts.

Comparatively, only two matches during last year’s Spring Split surpassed this peak viewership, both being playoff matches. The 2019 Spring Split finals drew in a peak viewer count of 477,000, while the playoff showdown between Fnatic and Origen had a peak viewership of 451,000.

On the other hand, the LCS has yet to come close to matching the LEC’s viewership records this split. TSM’s match against Immortals in week one only recorded just over 366,000 peak viewers, while all other high peak viewership matches in North America haven’t even reached 300,000.

These numbers are not surprising considering the excitement surrounding the G2 Esports vs Origen match, which showcased Origen’s meticulous and controlled playing style against G2’s initially shaky performances. However, G2 asserted their dominance over Origen with an outstanding performance from their superstar mid laner, Luka “Perkz” Perković, on LeBlanc. The reigning kings of Europe displayed impeccable macro play and teamfighting prowess, silencing any doubts.

Next week, G2 will go head-to-head against Fnatic once again, with expectations of yet another high viewership count.
