G2 vs. MAD Lions: Can the defending LEC champions be sent to the lower bracket once again?

G2 Esports vs. MAD Lions: An Exciting Playoff Matchup in LEC Summer Split 2020

G2 Esports and MAD Lions are set to face off in one of the most interesting matchups in the first round of the 2020 LEC Summer Split playoffs. Both teams have a history and are hungry for victory. G2 Esports, the reigning champions, are aiming for their fourth consecutive LEC crown, while MAD Lions are looking to make a name for themselves by taking down their opponents in a rematch of the 2020 Spring Split playoffs.

G2 Esports: A Do or Die Situation

G2 Esports is known for not taking their regular season games seriously, but this time is different. After a poor performance in the first round robin, they finished in third place with an 11-7 record, weaker compared to their dominant form in the past three splits. However, their recent matches have shown signs of improvement. G2 looked cleaner and more calculated in their plays, with good draft phases. Under pressure, they thrive, and this match might just be what they need to secure their fourth title in a row.

Key Player to Watch: Perkz

With G2’s recent role swap that sent Perkz back to the bottom lane and Caps to the mid lane, expectations were high for this iteration of the roster. However, G2 struggled to find their footing, particularly with Perkz not performing up to his previous level. In the second round robin, Perkz showed improvement and will likely be a strong contender against MAD Lions’ Carrzy. The ADCs have similar stats, but the support role will also play a crucial part. Perkz will need Mikyx’s help to dismantle MAD’s bottom lane.

MAD Lions: A Season of Dominance

MAD Lions had a more dominant season, often finding themselves tied for first with Rogue. However, a series of misplays towards the end of the season dropped them to second place. While this shouldn’t be a major concern, the team needs to step up and fix their mistakes quickly if they want to challenge G2 for the LEC title and secure a spot at the World Championship.

Key Player to Watch: Orome

Orome is an underrated player who fits MAD Lions’ playstyle well. He plays the supportive top laner role, focusing on objectives and farm. His deadliest pick is Renekton, and if he gets his hands on it without a counter, G2 could be in trouble. Orome leads the league in KDA and average kills for top laners, making him a threat to G2’s Wunder.

Prediction: G2 Esports 3-2

While MAD Lions looked stronger in the recent split, G2 is known to step up during playoffs. They might drop a couple of games, but if Perkz performs at his best, G2 could come out on top in this highly-anticipated matchup.
