G2 takes on Origen in the LEC’s top match of the week to commence the 2020 Summer Split

G2 Esports vs. Origen: LEC Summer Split Opens with a Clash of Titans

The LEC is back in action with a blockbuster matchup between G2 Esports and Origen. This highly-anticipated showdown will kick off the 2020 Summer Split with a best-of-one match.

G2 Esports comes into the Summer Split as the reigning champions, having dominated the Spring Split with a 15-3 record in the regular season. While they stumbled in the playoffs against MAD Lions, they quickly recovered and swept Fnatic in the grand finals.

Origen, on the other hand, had an impressive showing in the spring regular season, tying for second place with Fnatic. However, they faltered in the quarterfinals, losing 3-1 to G2. They will be hungry for revenge and looking to steal a win from G2 in this weekend’s matchup.

Lane Swaps and Role Changes for G2 Esports

G2 has made a significant change to their lineup for the Summer Split. Perkz, who previously played as the ADC, has returned to that position while Caps has moved back to the mid lane. This lane swap was initially successful in the 2019 offseason, but Caps struggled to adapt to his new role. Now, both players will have to readjust to their original positions, with Caps likely having an easier transition.

Targeting the botlane could be a winning strategy for Origen in their quest to defeat G2. Perkz has little experience on popular botlane champions like Aphelios, Senna, and Ezreal, which have been dominant picks in China’s LPL. Origen may prioritize the botlane to get their ADC, Upset, rolling and gain an advantage over G2.

The LEC Summer Split will begin on Friday, June 12, with the G2 Esports vs. Origen match scheduled for Saturday, June 13 at 2pm CT.
