G2 qualifies for knockout stage of MSI 2022 as PSG Talon loses to RNG

G2 Struggles in 2022 Mid-Season Invitational

G2 Esports, the European champions of the League of Legends (LoL) Mid-Season Invitational, have had a difficult tournament so far. Despite losing five consecutive games, G2 has managed to secure a spot in the knockout stage due to PSG Talon’s loss to Royal Never Give Up (RNG).

PSG’s defeat against RNG dashed their hopes of advancing in the tournament, which would have placed G2 in a do-or-die situation against Evil Geniuses. However, RNG proved to be too strong for PSG, ensuring that G2 would have another chance to compete.

G2 started the tournament on a high note, winning all their group stage matches and even defeating event favorites T1 and RNG in the rumble stage. This led many to consider G2 as one of the top teams at MSI.

However, G2’s performance declined as the tournament progressed. They suffered losses against almost every team except Evil Geniuses, and their statistics in the rumble stage were less than impressive. According to Oracle’s Elixir, G2 had the worst KDA and average gold difference at 15 minutes among all teams competing in the rumble.

One of the factors contributing to G2’s struggles is their drafting. They have deviated from their usual focus on dominant teamfighting compositions and experimented with poke and engage combinations, resulting in a decline in their mid-to-late game performance.

Now that the rumble stage is over, G2 will need to regroup and come up with new strategies for the upcoming knockout stage of the tournament.
