G2 makes a strong comeback, sealing victory against Excel Esports

G2 Esports Bounces Back with a Dominant Win over Excel Esports

G2 Esports faced a winless week in the last round, but they started off week five of the 2020 LEC Spring Split strong with a clean victory against Excel Esports. Led by jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski’s Karthus, G2 showed their dominance from the start.

In a surprising turn of events, the highly versatile champion Ornn made it to the second round of bans and was picked up by G2 mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković. Excel tried to counter with Vayne, picked by Son “Mickey” Young-min.

With help from Jankos, Perkz quickly shut down Vayne. Jankos secured first blood on Mickey, and repeated the process three minutes later. This gave Jankos a significant advantage, allowing him to deal a devastating amount of damage with his Requiems from the grave, punishing Excel’s squishy double-ADC team comp.

Mickey did display impressive dueling skill in one-vs-one situations, but ultimately he couldn’t bridge the gap between him and G2’s carries. Excel could only delay the inevitable, resulting in their fifth loss of the split.

Martin “Wunder” Hansen was a force to be reckoned with on Aatrox, wreaking havoc in Excel’s backline. Even without the threat of a Karthus ultimate, Wunder tore apart Excel’s squishy carries.

This game further solidifies Ornn’s position in the tier lists, especially on Patch 10.4. The recent buffs to Immolate and Bami’s Cinder have made Ornn even stronger, including his Sunfire Cape upgrade. Perkz was practically unkillable, taking tower hits for 10 seconds while his teammates dominated the game.

With this win, G2 now shares the top of the LEC standings with Misfits Gaming at 7-2. They will face MAD Lions in their next match at 1pm CT tomorrow.
