G2 Esports Win EU LCS Title in First Season

G2 Esports Wins EU LCS Title; Secures Spot in Mid Season Invitational

G2 Esports, the breakout team in the EU LCS, claimed the title in their first split and secured a spot in the Mid Season Invitational. They defeated Origen in the final, after spending eight of the nine regular season weeks at the top of the table.

G2 finished the season with an impressive 15-3 record, with losses to H2k-Gaming, Team Vitality, and Fnatic. In the semifinals, they defeated Fnatic 3-1, solidifying themselves as one of the top contenders in Europe.

G2’s trademark high pressure style overwhelmed Origen in game one, and although Origen struck back in game two, G2’s dominance continued in game three. The weakness of some of Origen’s lineup, particularly midlaner Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, was evident as he failed to record a single kill.

Despite team founder Enrique “xPeke” Cedeno Martinez making his third appearance of the season, he was unable to stop G2’s relentless performance and watched as his team fell to defeat. This marks the second consecutive second place finish for Origen, who lost the previous Summer Split finals to Fnatic.

G2 Esports will be competing in the Mid Season Invitational in just over two weeks. Counter Logic Gaming from NA and Flash Wolves from Taiwan are the only other teams who have secured their spots in the tournament.
