G2 Esports convincingly defeat Fnatic in LEC season finals

G2 Esports Clinch 12th LEC Championship with Dominant Victory Over Fnatic

G2 Esports secured their 12th LEC championship with a resounding 3-1 win over their long-time rivals, Fnatic, in the LEC Season Finals. This victory also earned them the top seed out of EMEA for the upcoming Worlds tournament, making it the fifth time they have entered as the LEC’s number one team.

In today’s finals, G2 Esports showcased their dominance, with an average win time of just 24 minutes and a total of 77 kills across the three victories. They averaged over a kill per minute in each of their wins, highlighting their aggressive and efficient play.

The topside combination of BrokenBlade and Yike proved to be a force to be reckoned with for G2 Esports. They consistently controlled the map and played a crucial role in teamfights throughout the series. Games one, three, and four saw them pair up with K’sante and Rell, allowing them to cause chaos for Fnatic with their engagements and follow-up damage. Yike’s impressive performance resulted in a KDA of 8.1 and a kill participation of 73.8 percent.

With this championship win, G2 Esports secures the top seed for the LEC at Worlds 2023. Unlike previous seasons, the newly-formed “Swiss Stage” will not guarantee them a favorable draw, as teams with even records will face off against each other. G2 Esports will skip the play-in stage and directly enter the Swiss Stage.

Also qualifying for the Worlds Swiss Stage are MAD Lions (third place) and Fnatic (runners-up). The only LEC team competing in the play-in stage will be Team BDS (fourth place), who will face Golden Guardians in the Worlds Qualifying Series on Oct. 9. The winner of that match will secure the final spot in the Worlds play-in stage, which begins on Oct. 10.
