G2 Esports advances to Finals of Worlds 2019 by defeating SK Telecom T1

G2 Esports Defeats SK Telecom T1 in Epic Semifinals Showdown

G2 Esports has achieved what no other team in the world could—taking down the formidable SK Telecom T1 in the 2019 World Championship semifinals. This incredible series showcased the best of both teams, with Europe’s G2 Esports keeping their dream of the competitive Grand Slam alive, while Korea’s SKT faced an unexpected end to their redemption run.

The four intense games saw SKT gaining substantial leads, thanks to impressive plays by jungler Kim “Clid” Tae-min and top laner Kim “Khan” Dong-ha. However, G2 refused to back down. In every game, they fought back with unexpected vigor and creativity.

G2 demonstrated their resilience by making small plays to initiate comebacks. They also outplayed SKT in multiple teamfights, capitalizing on some major mistakes made by superstar mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. These errors proved costly for SKT throughout the series, especially in the final game.

This pattern continued throughout the five games, with the pressure seemingly affecting even the perennial world champion, Faker. Though his teammates also made critical errors, Faker’s mistakes appeared more magnified and impactful.

G2 has proven themselves to be one of the greatest teams of all time, dominating in terms of creativity, skill, and team synergy. Their success is largely attributed to the brilliance of Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, who consistently supported his side lanes and made crucial picks.

On the other hand, SKT’s revenge tour came to an abrupt halt. This was their first time attending Worlds without making it to the finals. While still a formidable team, it’s clear that SKT will be dwelling on this loss for months. Despite having a chance to win each game, they were ultimately outmatched by what seems to be the best team in the world.

G2 will now face China’s FunPlus Phoenix in the quest to solidify their legacy and make history. The epic battle will take place on Sunday, November 10 at 6am CT.
