Friday in EU LCS: Unconventional builds and intense playoff battles

The Exciting Last Week of the LCS Season

The final week of the LCS season is always a thrilling one. With four EU teams vying for the top playoff seed and a first-round bye, we can expect some exciting games.

On the other hand, there are teams that have already been eliminated. This gives them a chance to have some fun: troll picks, role swaps, and funky strategies should be on display. What makes it even more interesting is that these unconventional strategies have already been a regular part of the professional meta this split.

Recap of Friday’s EU LCS Action

Unicorns of Love Win against H2k

Unicorns of Love took a lighthearted approach in this game. They picked Malphite for their top lane, which is not a troll pick since it has been used over 30 times this split in the LPL and LCK, the two strongest regions in the world.

But then UOL top laner Matti “WhiteKnight” Sormunen built a Dark Seal and a Hextech Protobelt, turning Malphite into an AP one-shot wonder. It was a fun and unexpected strategy.

FC Schalke 04 Defeats Splyce

Unlike the previous game, this one was a serious match. Schalke, one of the strongest teams in the league, came out with a teamfight composition featuring Cho’Gath, Sejuani, and Alistar as their front lines, with Vladimir and Ezreal dealing damage.

Splyce responded with their own tank composition and a split push mid laner in Yasuo. Despite Yasuo’s success in pushing to the inhibitor turrets, Schalke controlled the mid lane with superior teamfighting, securing Baron control and ultimately the win.

G2 Triumphs over GIANTS Gaming

This was a risky game for G2 as GIANTS had often proven to be a tough opponent for them. GIANTS’ jungler, Charly “Djoko” Guillard, started strong with Olaf, securing multiple early kills.

However, G2 stayed composed and stuck together. When GIANTS tried to split them apart, G2 grouped up and took a free Baron, turning the game around. GIANTS couldn’t defend against G2’s empowered push and ultimately succumbed to defeat.

Fnatic Conquers ROCCAT

Fnatic’s mid laner, Rasmus “Caps” Winther, has been the standout player for the team this season. With ADC Martin “Rekkles” Larsson taking time off, Caps has stepped up as Fnatic’s carry.

In the game against ROCCAT, Caps showcased his skills with LeBlanc, securing kills and making impressive plays. ROCCAT fought hard with Lissandra and Leona engages, but when Fnatic united and fought as a team, ROCCAT couldn’t stop them.

Vitality Overpowers Misfits

Misfits have struggled in the second half of the split. While they had a strong start, their recent wins have only come against H2k and Unicorns of Love. Vitality ensured that Misfits’ losing streak continued.

Vitality capitalized on Misfits’ mistakes, particularly in the bot lane, where Misfits’ ADC Steven “Hans Sama” Liv was forced to use flash early. Vitality’s ADC Amadeu “Attila” Carvalho’s Draven dominated the game. Despite Misfits’ attempts to fight back, Vitality’s lead proved insurmountable after they secured Baron.

With this victory, Fnatic secured a playoff bye, while Misfits find themselves tied with Schalke and G2 for second place, making it difficult for them to earn a playoff bye.
