FPX starts 2022 LPL Spring Split with win against RNG

LPL Spring Split 2022: OMG and FunPlus Phoenix Secure Opening Victories

The 2022 LPL Spring Split kicked off with an exciting return of competitive League of Legends play. In the first set of matches, OMG defeated ThunderTalk Gaming, while FunPlus Phoenix secured a 2-1 victory over Royal Never Give Up (RNG).

RNG and FPX showcased both their strengths and weaknesses throughout the series, indicating their potential as top contenders in the LPL Spring Split. RNG displayed impressive coordination in the early game, with jungler Wei’s Xin Zhao bringing relentless pressure to a single lane. Wei’s exceptional performance earned him the MVP award in the second game. However, RNG struggled during the mid game, where FPX excelled.

FPX demonstrated efficient communication and macro management, allowing them to turn the tide of the match even after shaky starts. Their quick reactions and strategic engages helped secure objectives such as dragons and Barons, even when they were behind. This was particularly evident in the third game when FPX’s mid laner, Gori, was constantly targeted by RNG’s ganks. Despite the setbacks, FPX capitalized on RNG’s mistakes and secured a numerical advantage to claim victory.

FPX’s focus on objectives played a crucial role in their success. They secured an early Baron in the first game, giving them a significant gold advantage. In the second game, they managed to come back from being 3,500 gold behind RNG by stealing a Baron and destroying the outer mid lane tower. The introduction of objective bounties in the 2022 preseason proved highly beneficial for FPX.

While RNG’s players showcased strong mechanics and laning phases, FPX’s bot lane displayed promise. Lwx’s Jinx and Hang’s Thresh maintained a farm advantage despite being harassed in the early game, and their performance played a crucial role in FPX’s victory, especially during teamfights. Lwx was named the MVP of the game, contributing 43.3% of the team’s damage dealt, achieving a perfect KDA, and participating in 83.3% of the kills.

Looking ahead, FPX and RNG will continue their LPL journey on Friday, Jan. 14, facing off against LGD and JDG, respectively. The LPL action will resume tomorrow with JD Gaming taking on EDward Gaming, followed by LDG against Anyone’s Legend (formerly known as Rogue Warriors).
