FPX earns back-to-back victories as GimGoon returns to starting lineup for the second win

FunPlus Phoenix Defeats EDward Gaming in Intense Series

FunPlus Phoenix emerged victorious in a thrilling 2-1 series against EDward Gaming in the 2020 LPL Summer Split. Top laner Kim “GimGoon” Han-saem played a crucial role in both games, earning his first MVP award for his outstanding performance on Gangplank. Despite GimGoon’s impressive play, it was Crisp on Nautilus who was the key factor in their victory, securing the title of MVP.

Game Analysis

In the first game, EDward Gaming dominated FunPlus Phoenix across all lanes. Despite securing some early dragons, FunPlus Phoenix was unable to convert it into the Dragon Soul due to their significant disadvantage. EDward Gaming played a flawless game of League of Legends, with their top laner carrying the team on Camille and securing a decisive victory.

After a disappointing first game, FunPlus Phoenix revamped their draft strategy by choosing five new champions, with GimGoon taking Gangplank as the first pick. This change worked in their favor as they gained an early lead through better macro play and individual performances. They successfully secured early dragons and with a commanding lead of nearly 10,000 gold, they forced a fight for the Dragon Soul, ultimately clinching the win.

The third game showcased the exceptional support skills of Crisp. As a world champion support, Crisp displayed excellent vision control and initiations with Nautilus. Despite an early deficit, Crisp’s performance allowed FunPlus Phoenix to stage a comeback and secure the series victory.

FunPlus Phoenix’s Journey

GimGoon, who played a crucial role in FunPlus Phoenix’s 2019 World Championship win, was benched for most of the Summer Split. However, with their recent slump, FunPlus Phoenix has reinstated GimGoon in hopes of turning their fortunes around. Currently clinging to a playoff spot, FunPlus Phoenix must secure more wins, especially against lower-tier teams, to guarantee their place in the playoffs.
