FunPlus Phoenix Jungler Banned for Match-Fixing in League of Legends

FunPlus Phoenix’s jungler, Zhou “Bo” Yang-Bo, has received a four-month ban from competing in League of Legends after being found guilty of match-fixing, as announced by the LPL.

Previous Suspension and Investigation

Earlier this year, Bo was suspended following reports that he was coerced into engaging in inappropriate behavior during the 2020 LDL season when he played for eStar Young in the Chinese academy league.

Efforts Against Match-Fixing

The League disciplinary management committee has conducted an extensive investigation into all players, coaches, and management personnel from the 43 teams in the LPL and LDL to combat match-fixing.

Consequences and Statement from LPL

As a result of the investigation, Bo and TT Gaming’s Wang “Teeen” Yao-Ji and Xiang “bless” Yi-Tong have been banned from competition and streaming League of Legends, while Shen Jie Gaming has been removed from the LDL indefinitely. In a statement on social media, the LPL expressed their commitment to eliminate the influence of match-fixing.

To further deter match-fixing, the LPL has announced that future violations will be dealt with using stricter standards.

Bo’s Admission and Reduced Ban

Bo voluntarily confessed to his involvement in improper behavior that affected the fairness of a game in the LDL. Due to his cooperation and assistance in the investigation, his ban was reduced from six to four months. The league also imposed undisclosed fines on the player.

Bo’s Apology and FPX Team Status

In response to the ban, Bo expressed his regret and remorse over his mistakes during the 2020 LDL season. He won’t be returning to FPX’s starting lineup until the LPL Summer Split playoffs later this year, and Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang will continue to act as the team’s jungler for the remainder of the season.
