Former World Champion Coach Joins Weibo Gaming in the LPL

Weibo Gaming Signs New Head Coach in Hopes of Securing Worlds 2023 Spot

Weibo Gaming has made a major move in the world of League of Legends esports by hiring Yang “Daeny” Dae-in as their new head coach. Daeny, considered one of the most successful coaches in the industry, will lead the LPL team for the remainder of the season.

After a disappointing performance in the 2023 LPL Spring Split, where the team finished in the top six, Weibo Gaming decided to part ways with their previous head coach, Easyhoon. Despite having a talented roster, the team failed to achieve their expected results.

Originally, Weibo Gaming had intended to hire former T1 head coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun. However, due to kkOma’s commitments with the Korean national team, the deal fell through. As a result, Daeny was selected as the new head coach.

Daeny had previous experience working with the world-champion roster of DWG KIA in 2020 and later joined T1 for the 2021 season. However, his time with T1 did not meet expectations, leading to his dismissal during the 2021 LCK Summer Split. He returned to DWG KIA, where he remained until the end of 2022.

Given the high potential of Weibo Gaming’s lineup and the organization’s expectations, Daeny will need to demonstrate his abilities in leading a team with strong personalities.

The exact start date of the 2023 LPL Summer Split is yet to be confirmed, but it will begin after the conclusion of the Mid-Season Invitational.
