European League of Legends fans were excited after day one of the 2022 World Championship. Fnatic and MAD Lions both won all their matches, starting the tournament off strong. The good news continued when fans found out that Fnatic’s veteran support, Hylissang, was ready to play in their match against DetonatioN FocusMe today.

Fnatic had received some criticism after their AD carry, Upset, revealed that the team hadn’t practiced for Worlds since the LEC playoffs. It didn’t help that both Upset and Hylissang tested positive for COVID-19, delaying their travel to Mexico City and preventing them from practicing with the rest of the team.

However, Fnatic proved themselves on the first day with convincing wins against Evil Geniuses and Chiefs Esports Club. Today, they faced off against DFM in their quest to reach the group stage of the event, and it was a tough fight.

In the early game, DFM managed to get a few kills, including a surprise catch in the bottom lane. After that, things looked grim for Fnatic with a solo kill on Wunder and a failed tower dive. But as the game progressed, Fnatic’s teamfighting skills kicked in and they turned the tide.

Fnatic’s teamfighting proved too strong for DFM, and after some one-sided skirmishes and a free Baron, Fnatic marched towards victory. Hylissang had a few missteps but played a crucial role with his engages on Maokai, ending the game with two kills, nine assists, and four deaths.

It was almost poetic that Hylissang started off Worlds by giving away first blood, but now he and the rest of the team can focus on reaching the main event group stage. Tomorrow, Fnatic will face LOUD in the first match of the day.
