Fnatic puts LEC players and staff under quarantine due to Hylissang and coach Tolki contracting COVID-19

Fnatic Quarantines League of Legends Team and Staff After Positive COVID-19 Tests

Fnatic’s League of Legends team and staff members have been put under quarantine due to positive COVID-19 tests. Support player Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov and assistant coach Gary “Tolki” Mialaret both confirmed their contraction of the virus. Hylissang expressed his disappointment about not being able to participate in important games but was glad that the team still performed well in his absence.

Tolki, on the other hand, tested positive on March 9 and immediately began isolating himself. He has been working from home for approximately 10 days.

Following the news of the positive tests, Fnatic took proactive measures and quarantined anyone who had been in contact with the infected individuals. The organization worked closely with Riot Games to ensure their participation in the final week of the 2021 LEC Spring Split, which took place from March 12 to 14.

In a statement on Twitter, Fnatic stated that their priority was to ensure the safety of their team and continue with their scheduled matches. With the weekend’s games completed, they are now looking forward to the playoffs and aim to return to their Berlin facility as soon as possible. The organization has confidence that all their members will fully recover and be ready for an exciting playoffs run.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the LEC has been conducted entirely online. Most teams have implemented strict protocols to prevent the spread of the virus, either by competing from their gaming houses or practicing in separate facilities.

The LEC plans to have teams compete from the Berlin studio for the 2021 Spring Split playoffs. Riot Games has been exploring offline event opportunities while maintaining safety measures. The LCS recently announced that the finals for its Mid-Season Showdown will be held at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

Fnatic’s experience at the 2020 World Championship, which was conducted in a bubble environment in China, demonstrates Riot’s efforts to bring offline events to life while ensuring safety.
