Fnatic is Making a Comeback to the Top of the EU LCS Following a Rocky Start in Week One

Fnatic’s Struggles in the EU LCS Summer Split Opener

Fnatic had a tough start in the 2018 EU LCS Summer Split opener against Misfits. They were thoroughly dominated in terms of gold, towers, kills, and overall performance.

Fnatic’s Unconvincing Performance

In their second game against FC Schalke 04, Fnatic tried a similar strategy, with mixed results. Although they won the game, it was far from convincing.

G2 Esports and Misfits’ Dominance

G2 Esports, a four-time championship team, and Misfits have been performing exceptionally well. Both teams are tied for first place and looking stronger than Fnatic.

A New Team with Bwipo

During week two, Fnatic showed a renewed vigor and experimented with new strategies. They emerged victorious against Vitality and H2k, but notably, they did it without their star player Rekkles, who was substituted by Bwipo.

Bwipo’s inclusion in the team made sense due to the non-marksman meta in the bot lane. Rekkles, who specializes in marksmen, might not be comfortable playing other champions. On the other hand, Bwipo is experienced with those types of champions.

However, the fact that Fnatic heavily relies on Bwipo is concerning, even though they have been performing well with him.

Other teams, both in the NA LCS and EU LCS, have shown that traditional marksmen in the bot lane can still be successful. Misfits, for example, have used Varus and Draven with great success.

So the question arises, why can’t Fnatic achieve the same success with Rekkles?

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this question. Fnatic has yet to give Rekkles a chance this split. However, if they continue to perform well with Bwipo, they might not feel the need to make a change. But when faced with stronger teams, Bwipo’s lack of experience and instincts in late-game situations could pose a challenge.

The upcoming match against G2 will be a crucial test for Fnatic. If they choose to stick with Bwipo, it will demonstrate that their current approach is effective. If they decide to bring back Rekkles, he will have to prove himself once again as a top carry.

Regardless, Fnatic is making a comeback, and their match against G2 in the EU LCS Spring Split finals rematch will determine their standing in the league.
