FlyQuest looks to reverse LCS slump by replacing VicLa with NA Challenger rookie

FlyQuest Makes Roster Change for LCS Playoffs

FlyQuest, in an effort to turn their Summer Split season around and avoid missing the LCS playoffs, has made a significant roster change. Mid laner VicLa has been benched, and Djalal “Spirax” Djiar, a promising player from within the organization, has been promoted to the starting lineup. This will be Spirax’s debut in the North American competition.

A Decision Made to Improve Performance

FlyQuest president Chris “PapaSmithy” Smith and general manager Nicholas Phan addressed the decision in a video on July 11. They explained that with a current record of 3-9, the team’s performance had fallen below their preseason expectations. They decided to make a change and bring in Spirax to inject new energy into the team.

Spirax’s Path to the LCS

Spirax joined FlyQuest’s academy roster in Nov. 2021 after playing collegiate League of Legends for Maryvillle University. Despite the squad not finishing in the top six during the 2022 LCS Proving Grounds, Spirax stood out and earned a promotion to the organization’s Challengers squad for the 2023 NACL season.

A Reward for Spirax’s Talent and Form

Known for his versatility and consistency, Spirax has become a valuable addition to the roster, particularly excelling with the champion Azir. FlyQuest Challengers has already secured a spot in the NACL Summer playoffs. PapaSmithy expressed their confidence in the Challengers program and emphasized Spirax’s excellent form in the NACL season, which led to his well-deserved opportunity to play in the LCS.

Spirax is the second rookie to make his LCS debut in the last week, following Team Liquid’s addition of APA on July 6. APA had an impressive start, accumulating 11 kills and 14 assists without dying on the LCS stage.

After a strong showing in the LCS Spring Split, where they narrowly missed a spot at MSI, FlyQuest has struggled in the summer season. They lost their first six matches but managed to secure victories against NRG and Immortals in week four before facing setbacks against 100 Thieves, Golden Guardians, and Dignitas.

FlyQuest will begin week five of the LCS against NRG, and they have matches scheduled against Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid later in the week.
