FlyQuest bids farewell to midlaner and coach following underwhelming LCS summer split

FlyQuest Announces Roster Shuffle: VicLa and Coach Ssong Depart

FlyQuest has made the decision to part ways with mid-laner Lee “VicLa” Dae-kwang and coach Kim “Ssong” Sang-soo. The organization expressed their gratitude for their dedication and passion. Although it is unclear who FlyQuest will seek as replacements, the team has plenty of time before the 2024 LCS spring split begins.

The Arrival of VicLa and Coach Ssong

VicLa and Coach Ssong joined FlyQuest from Korea in 2022. With high expectations heading into the 2023 competitive season, many were excited to see how the newcomers would perform in the LCS.

A Promising Start Followed by a Fall

FlyQuest performed well in the regular split, achieving a 14-4 record. However, they fell short of securing a spot at the Mid-Season Invitational. Despite this setback, VicLa made an immediate impact, earning a spot on the LCS Third All-Pro Team in his first split.

Unfortunately, FlyQuest’s success dwindled in the summer split. They started with a 0-6 record, and VicLa had the lowest KDA among all starting mid-laners in the split. Trying to salvage their season, the organization benched VicLa and brought in academy player Djalal “Spirax” Djiar. However, it seemed that the damage had already been done.

Looking Ahead

FlyQuest finished the split with a 6-12 record, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot. It is expected that changes will be made to the roster, considering the team’s decline between the spring and summer splits.

VicLa, at only 19 years old and with experience in multiple major regions, still has a promising career ahead of him in League of Legends. If he doesn’t find a home in the LCS, he is likely to return to Korea to compete.

In addition to FlyQuest, Immortals also made changes by dropping mid-laner Onur “Bolulu” Demirol. Other LCS teams may also make adjustments, with some waiting until the conclusion of Worlds in Korea.
