Flash Wolves Secure First Win at MSI 2017
The Flash Wolves have notched their first victory at MSI 2017, taking advantage of a collapse by the Gigabyte Marines.
The Wolves were aiming to rebound from their previous two losses in the group stage, while the Gigabyte Marines hoped to continue their impressive run that started with a win against TSM.
Gigabyte got off to a strong start, securing an aggressive first blood kill in the toplane after a successful split push. They controlled vision in the early game, forcing Flash Wolves to adopt a more passive playstyle than they are accustomed to. Gigabyte was outplaying the Flash Wolves in a mental game.
Marines appeared to catch another opponent off-guard early on. They capitalized on a collapse in the toplane to secure their second kill and the first tower blood. The Flash Wolves quickly responded by using their man advantage in the botlane to secure a tower and close the substantial gold lead that Gigabyte was building.
Gigabyte capitalized on a Flash Wolves engage by utilizing Galio’s ultimate ability, which knocked up the enemy Shen and resulted in a kill. They maintained a strategic approach, only punishing the Flash Wolves when they made positional errors or provided clear advantages.
Despite Galio controlling the flow of battle, the Marines were unable to maintain pressure into the late game. The Flash Wolves finally secured their first kill at the 20-minute mark, capitalizing on Galio’s aggression. However, the Flash Wolves invested too much in that kill, allowing Gigabyte the opportunity to re-ward and gain control of the river.
The kill on Galio served as a catalyst for Gigabyte. The team regrouped and forced a play in the Flash Wolves’ jungle, catching the unsuspecting opponents off-guard.
The Flash Wolves quickly turned the tide by collapsing onto the unsuspecting Gigabyte players, securing four kills. However, they were unable to convert the teamfight victory into any meaningful objectives.
Moments later, the Flash Wolves secured another successful teamfight, this time securing the Baron buff. With the buff in hand, they took down multiple towers, erasing the significant gold lead that Gigabyte Marines had built and resetting the game.
In the final moments of the game, the Gigabyte Marines collapsed on a failed counterattack at the Elder Dragon, providing the Flash Wolves with the resources they needed to secure the ace and ultimately win the game after being behind for so long.
