Five Areas That Riot Should Address in Teamfight Tactics

Brought to you by IKON, challenging you to share your greatest game moments and win amazing prizes.

If you haven’t tried the newest League of Legends game mode, Teamfight Tactics, what are you waiting for (besides long queue times)?

The reason for the long queues is because the new mode is a ton of fun. It’s been a massive hit so far and has the potential to grow into something special.

But there are still some issues. Despite how well-received and polished the game is, it’s still in the early stages of its beta test. It could be a while before it’s fully released. Even Riot has acknowledged the work that lies ahead for the development team.

But we have a few suggestions for the team as well. Here are the top five flaws with Teamfight Tactics that, if fixed, could make it an amazing game mode.

1) Game length

One of the advantages of autobattlers like Teamfight Tactics and Dota Auto Chess is their laid-back nature. These games feel more relaxed, similar to card or tower defense games.

But the problem is that winning at Teamfight Tactics still takes a long time. Players get eliminated one by one, so the last two standing could be in a game for quite a while. Riot could develop a shorter version of the game, reducing the player count from eight to four, to allow for quicker matches and attract a wider audience.

2) Complexity

Teamfight Tactics can be overwhelming for new players. There’s a lot happening on the board, from champions with different classes and origins to items, gold, experience, and more.

Riot should provide a comprehensive tutorial when the game mode is fully released to help new players understand the mechanics. The current tutorial for League of Legends is lacking, and it shouldn’t be the case for Teamfight Tactics.

3) RNG

Every card game has an element of RNG to keep it fresh and exciting. However, there’s too much RNG in Teamfight Tactics right now, leading to unbalanced results.

To make RNG more interactive and manageable, Riot could give players more agency over it. They could introduce item drops with multiple choices, or mechanics that allow players to swap out items or champions at certain points in the game. This would add strategic depth without overwhelming players with choices.

4) Originality

League of Legends borrowed ideas from earlier MOBAs, and now Teamfight Tactics borrows from competing autobattlers. To set itself apart, Riot needs to think of something unique for the game mode.

Riot should harness the creativity of its player base to come up with new game modes. Giving players the opportunity to create and contribute original content could enhance the overall experience.

5) Mobile

Riot needs to develop a mobile version of Teamfight Tactics soon. Autobattlers are well-suited for mobile gaming, and other autobattler games are already making their way into the mobile space. Riot should launch both PC and mobile versions together to stay competitive.
