First LEC Team Secure Place in 2023 LoL World Championship

MAD Lions Clinch Spot at 2023 League of Legends World Championship

MAD Lions secured their spot at the highly esteemed 2023 League of Legends World Championship after a dominant performance against Excel Esports. This marks the first representation for the LEC in the upcoming championship.

The popular team earned their place in the prestigious event by winning their first series in the 2023 LEC Season Finals. This guarantees that they will finish within the top three positions. MAD Lions will also not have to battle for a spot in the Worlds Qualifying Series, which features the fourth seeds from both the LCS and LEC.

This year has been a rollercoaster for MAD Lions fans. Despite maintaining the same roster throughout the league’s new three-split format, the team experienced ups and downs. They narrowly missed out on a title during the 2023 Winter Split but achieved a remarkable Cinderella run to win the championship in the spring.

In the 2023 Summer Split, however, the Lions struggled. They had a weak performance in both the regular season and playoffs, barely making it to the group stage with a disappointing 4-5 record. Their title hopes were dashed when they were swept by Fnatic.

Fortunately, the three-week break between the Summer Playoffs and the Season Finals proved to be beneficial for MAD Lions. It allowed them to regroup and regain their form.

In the series against Excel, AD carry Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság showcased his skills with 19 kills and 14 assists across three games. He excelled as a late-game carry on champions like Sivir, Varus, and Ezreal, consistently finding opportunities to deal maximum damage.

Although their spot in Worlds is secured, MAD Lions must now refocus on the LEC. They will face off against either G2 Esports or Team BDS in the next round of the tournament.
