Faker gains fresh insights on mid lane through assisting Poby with LoL

Faker Gains New Perspective and Appreciation for the Game During Injury

After recovering from a hand injury that kept him out of the LCK roster, Faker made a significant impact in T1’s win against Kwangdong Freecs on Aug. 2. During his time away from competition, the League of Legends legend gained valuable insights into the game through his substitute, Yoon “Poby” Sung-won.

Gaining Insights from Behind the Scenes

While injured, Faker provided support to T1 behind the scenes. This allowed him to observe Poby’s performance and gain a fresh perspective on the mid lane. Despite T1’s limited success with Poby, Faker praised his substitute after their 2-0 victory against KDF on Aug. 2.

Learning from Poby’s Strengths

In a post-match interview, Faker expressed his admiration for Poby and acknowledged his many strengths. He also mentioned learning about laning in the mid lane through his interactions with Poby. The experience of analyzing the game from a third-person’s perspective provided Faker with new insights that he hadn’t noticed while playing.

The Impact of Poby as a Team Player

Faker described Poby as a valuable team player who effectively executes plays with his teammates. Poby faced a challenging task in filling the shoes of the first team, especially with the LCK playoffs on the horizon.

According to statistics from Oracles Elixir, Poby recorded an average KDA of 1.6 and a 55.5 percent kill participation in the 18 games played with T1’s first team during the 2023 LCK Summer Split. While his KDA may be lower than Faker’s (3.8), it is understandable considering his role within the team.

Faker and T1 will continue their journey in the LCK against SANDBOX Gaming on Aug. 4.
