Expect a Possible Ranked Reset Ahead, but Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

A Potential League of Legends Ranked Reset May Be Approaching

Riot Games is considering the possibility of a ranked reset in League of Legends. However, there are certain obstacles preventing them from easily implementing this change. In a recent tweet, Rioter Ed “SapMagic” Altorfer discussed the potential for a ranked reset and the challenges that come with addressing community concerns.

At the start of the season, Riot Games made several changes to the ranked system. This included adding two new tiers, introducing armor and borders, and implementing positional matchmaking.

Unfortunately, players encountered various bugs, MMR issues, and glitches that significantly decreased the quality of ranked play. In response, the League of Legends subreddit advocated for a ranked reset.

The Challenges of a Ranked Reset

SapMagic stated on Twitter that a reset is unlikely and even if implemented, it wouldn’t solve all the problems in ranked mode. In fact, it could potentially create new issues.

While resets can help address general LP inaccuracies, there may be MMR problems at higher ranks. SapMagic explained that any potential reset would likely only apply to Diamond and above. As a result, a player with a 2000 MMR could be matched against someone with a 3000 MMR after the reset.

Additionally, SapMagic emphasized that a reset would erase the legitimate progress of players who have earned their ranks, resulting in the loss of thousands or millions of hours of gameplay.

A Possible Reset in the Future

Despite the challenges, a ranked reset may still be on the horizon. SapMagic hinted at an upcoming update that will provide more details on the ranked issues Riot is facing and their plans to address them.
