League of Legends to Introduce Exciting Quality-of-Life Features
A range of new quality-of-life updates is on the horizon for League of Legends, designed to enhance the player experience and prepare them for the game.
In a recent developer update, Riot Auberaun, the product lead of the Game Loop team, shared insights on the team’s efforts to improve matchmaking, queue types, and more. They also provided an update on their progress since the last update, which focused on MMR and solo-only lobbies.
Auberaun clarified that the team is not currently considering separate queues for solos and duos. They believe that Ranked Flex does not offer the same level of competitiveness as normal ranked queues, making it unsuitable for duo parties.
In Patch 12.16, a change was implemented to reduce the frequency of autofill against players who specialize in a specific position. Players returning to the game after a break have also seen higher win rates in ranked queues.
Looking ahead, Riot is exploring ways to increase player anonymity during the drafting phase to prevent the use of third-party applications that influence queue dodging. The goal is to address the underlying motivations behind dodging and reduce its occurrence naturally.
Another highly-requested feature, the ability to swap pick order, which is currently available in the mobile version of League, Wild Rift, is being considered for implementation in the main game. This would allow players to request pick-order swaps with a simple click during the draft phase, to be accepted or declined by their teammates.
Riot is also planning to introduce a “loadout recommender” during the draft phase, similar to item recommendations in the in-game shop. This feature would suggest popular sets of runes and summoner spells for specific champions, providing guidance for less experienced players and streamlining the selection process.
While specific release dates have not been announced, players can anticipate more details about these quality-of-life updates in the 2023 League preseason and the start of next year.
